About the Artist: Sandra Poczobut
Sandra Poczobut is a late career installation and performance artists, curator and educator currently undertaking Ph.D. Studies at the Faculty of Education at Western University. Sandra has exhibited at Ottawa Art Gallery, Elgin County Heritage Centre, The Elgin County Railway Museum, The Artist Project, World of Threads International Fiber Arts Festival, and the Art Gallery of Mississauga in addition to various place based works.
Sandra’s experience working in community development, programming and educational consulting spans over two decades. Some highlights include integrating ecology and design thinking as an instructor at OCADU/AGO Continuing Education, instructing and developing curriculum for the only Canadian program geared at Internationally Trained Architects at JVS Toronto, and working with schools at in the Peele Region as an Artist in Residence for the Art Gallery of Mississauga. In addition, she has worked as a Manager of Programming and Community Development for the Elgin County Libraries. There she developed, led and implemented various initiatives and collaborations such as rural LGBTQ+ youth programming, Maker Spaces in the library, and E-waste recycling programs.
Sandra’s interdisciplinary work takes on a posthumanist/new materialist framework, wherein the processes through which she creates aims to to diminish disciplinary boundaries and heiarchies. Her scholarly, community and creative work are entangled and are led by respect for the human and more-than-human world.
Her current research is situated in Dr. Rachel Heydon’s SSHRC Insight Grant funded reading pedagogies of equity project in which she holds the specialized role of an Atelierista supporting professional learning for teacher educators across various modes as it relates to academic reading. https://readingpedagogiesofequity.wordpress.com/
